Dining

Special Requests and Accommodations

Brown Dining Services (BDS) strives to accommodate diverse dietary needs, but cannot always meet all allergies/restrictions through standard offerings. If BDS can't reasonably accommodate a documented disability or religious need, a student may request a full or partial Meal Plan Exemption. BDS, with its registered dietitian(s), acts in an advisory role to evaluate these requests.

For Disability Related Requests

Including requests related to food allergies, dietary restrictions or other medically based dietary restrictions.

Meal Plan Exemption Request Process for Disability Reasons:

1. Students must complete the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) intake form and submit documentation.

SAS Intake Form- Once processed students will then be notified by SAS to submit documentation.  Please ensure any pertinent medical documentation is uploaded to your student portal.

For Religious or Spiritual Based Requests

Meal Plan Exemption Request Process for Religious Reasons:

1. Submit Initial Request to Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life (OCRL).

Students must complete the OCRL Dining Accommodation Intake Form.

After submitting the form, OCRL may reach out to schedule a brief consultation with a chaplain if clarification on the request is needed.

Dining does not process exemptions outside of these two pathways.

Appeals

Students wishing to appeal a Meal Plan Exemption decision are required to submit an appeal by writing within 10 business days of the denial to the entity responsible for the original Meal Plan Exemption decision.
